One of Harrison’s most exclusive designs is the Ellerston Golf Course, private to the Packer family, where playing requires a personal invitation. The course is renowned for its challenging layout and is consistently ranked among the top in Australia and the world.
Bob Harrison is an Australian golf course architect highly regarded for his work primarily in Australasia and Asia. He studied Civil Engineering at the University of Sydney and started his career working on golf-residential projects with Lend Lease Corporation. Harrison’s career took off when he joined Greg Norman Golf Course Design in 1988, where he served as lead designer in the region for over 21 years.
He designed some of Australia’s premier golf courses including Ellerston (noted for its difficulty and exclusivity), The National’s Moonah course, Brookwater, The Glades, Pelican Waters, and The Vintage. His Asian projects include Nirwana Bali, widely regarded as one of the best golf resorts in the Pacific Rim before its recent renovation. Harrison is known for working on challenging natural and man-made sites, blending golf needs with residential design, and producing spectacular, challenging courses.
After leaving Greg Norman’s firm in 2009, Harrison started his own company and worked on notable projects such as the Ardfin course on the Isle of Jura in Scotland, praised for its natural beauty and complexity. His design philosophy focuses on creating courses that look natural and are spectacular to play, regardless of the quality of the land.
