About

Bob Lohmann literally launched his firm in his home's basement, started without a single project, relying on cold calls and the support of his wife to succeed in the competitive world of golf course design.

Bob Lohmann is a prominent American golf course architect renowned for his thoughtful approach to design, emphasizing the natural fit between course and landscape. Born in Milwaukee, he earned a degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison before spending nine formative years working with Dick Nugent and Ken Killian. In 1984, Lohmann founded Lohmann Golf Designs, Inc., in suburban Chicago, and later added a construction firm, Golf Creations, in 1987. Over his career, he has designed and renovated dozens of courses across the Midwest and beyond, including Boulder Ridge Country Club (IL), The Merit Club (IL), Canyata (IL), Bishops Bay Country Club (WI), and Mattaponi Springs Golf Course (VA). Lohmann served as president of the American Society of Golf Course Architects from 1998 to 1999. His work is noted for balancing playability, strategy, and environmental stewardship, consistently adapting to new trends while maintaining a passion for sustainable, player-friendly courses.
