About

Cynthia Dye McGarey is one of the few prominent female golf course architects and designed Portugal’s West Cliffs Golf Club after crafting its contours with her son by sculpting sand on the beach.

Cynthia Dye McGarey, born in Urbana, Ohio, is a renowned American golf course architect and a member of the distinguished Dye family. Mentored from childhood by her father, Roy Anderson Dye, and her uncle, Hall of Famer Pete Dye, Cynthia learned golf course design fundamentals early, immersing herself in projects from a young age. After beginning her career in landscape architecture in Phoenix, Arizona, she became a full-time consultant for the family business in 1988, working on projects worldwide. In 2001, Cynthia founded Dye Designs Group to create courses under her own name, reflecting the signature Dye philosophy while emphasizing sustainability and cost-effective, environmentally-minded design. Cynthia is one of the industry's few prominent female architects, with a portfolio spanning 27 countries and landmark projects including White Horse Golf Club (Washington), Dreamland Golf Club (Azerbaijan), Ferrum Club (South Korea), and West Cliffs (Portugal). She has been recognized for her innovative approaches to sustainable design and remains an influential figure in modern golf course architecture.
