About

Ken Kavanaugh maintains a one-man operation and personally handles every phase of his golf course designs, making him one of the most 'hands-on' architects in the industry.

Ken Kavanaugh is an accomplished American golf course architect and is the founder of Kenneth M. Kavanaugh Golf Course Design, established in 1984. Originally from Illinois, Kavanaugh received his degree in landscape architecture from the University of Arizona, after studies in architecture at Arizona State University and environmental science at Southern Illinois University. Renowned for his 'hands-on' approach, he personally guides every aspect of his projects, emphasizing classic craftsmanship and attention to detail. Kavanaugh has designed and renovated golf courses across nine states, including prominent projects such as the Gold Canyon Golf Club (AZ), Longbow Golf Club (AZ), Orchard Valley Golf Course (IL), and The Homestead at Murphy Creek (CO). Merging innovation with tradition, he aims to create courses that challenge skilled golfers while remaining enjoyable for all. A scratch golfer himself, he draws on his playing and competitive experience, including a semifinal finish in the Arizona State Amateur and a win at the 1994 Pima County Amateur, to inform his designs and philosophy.
