Mary Armstrong is a distinguished golf course architect and landscape architect known for her environmentally sensitive and innovative designs. Earning her landscape architecture degree from Iowa State University, Armstrong began her career with projects including national wildlife refuges and environmental centers before following her passion by founding Armstrong Golf Architects in 1990. Over two decades, she contributed to the design, remodeling, or consulting on over 120 golf courses worldwide, earning a citation from Green Planets Architects in 2014 for her work in sustainable golf course architecture. Armstrong’s approach to golf design is deeply rooted in environmental stewardship and balancing playability with aesthetics. She has also been recognized as one of the world’s top female golf architects by leading golf publications. Following industry slowdowns, Armstrong transitioned towards writing, yet continued implementing high-profile projects including the redesign of the bunkers at Picacho Hills Golf Course in 2012.
