About
Before switching careers in his early 30s, Mike Nuzzo was lead engineer on a $650 million satellite project at Lockheed Martin before becoming one of the few golf architects to start in aerospace engineering.
Mike Nuzzo is an innovative American golf course architect recognized for his unique blend of engineering expertise and golf passion. Growing up in Maplewood, New Jersey, he caddied as a teenager and designed mini-golf layouts at home before graduating from Boston University in 1990 with a degree in aerospace engineering. Nuzzo initially worked in engineering and project management, including significant roles at Lockheed Martin, but ultimately followed his lifelong love of golf into course design. After gaining early experience with the firm Finger, Dye, and Spann, he founded Nuzzo Course Design. Nuzzo is best known for his work on Wolf Point Club in Port Lavaca, Texas—hailed as one of the most cleverly designed private courses in the U.S.—and for reimagining community golf through projects like Grand Oaks Reserve, where he helped create multiple distinct nine-hole experiences. Nuzzo’s background in advanced design technology helps him deliver courses that balance fun, efficiency, and maintainability, making him a respected figure in modern golf architecture.
