Ray Hearn is a distinguished American golf course architect known for his classic design sensibilities and deep devotion to restoring and updating historic courses. Born and raised in southeast Michigan, Hearn began playing golf at age ten and developed an early love for the sport. His academic prowess and passion for golf earned him the prestigious Evans Scholarship to Michigan State University, where he completed dual degrees in Turfgrass Science and Landscape Architecture with a focus in Golf Course Architecture. Hearn founded Raymond Hearn Golf Course Designs, Inc. in 1996 and has since overseen more than 150 renovation and restoration projects across North and Central America, becoming especially noted for his master planning, innovative construction cost practices, and a selective approach that allows close involvement on each project. An award-winning architect, he is a member of the American Society of Golf Course Architects and has received multiple Design Excellence Awards as well as international recognition for innovation. Hearn is also a respected writer and educator, having taught design courses both in the U.S. and overseas.
