Course Report

The Founders Course features a unique double green shared by the 9th and 18th holes, an uncommon design choice that stands out in Arkansas golf.

About

The Founders Course at Chenal Country Club in Little Rock was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and opened in 1990. It features Zoysia fairways and Tif Eagle Bermuda greens, winding through rolling hills and incorporating water on over half its holes. Recognized for its challenge and beauty, it offers a private, top-tier Arkansas golf experience.

Caddie Tip

Keep your drive in play and respect water hazards, especially on the approach to greens like 3, 4, 9, and 12. Many greens are well-protected and approach angles matter, so aim for smart layups and don't take unnecessary risks when water is in play. Precision off the tee is rewarded.

The Main Challenge

Water hazards play a significant strategic role on 11 holes, and the layout tests shot placement and decision-making throughout. The par 4s near water require accuracy off the tee and on approaches, while the greens are often well-guarded and undulating, rewarding precise iron play.

The Good

Golfers love the course's dramatic use of water and its strategic design, which challenges players of all levels. The routing through rolling Arkansas hills provides scenic variety and a sense of seclusion, while the fairway and green conditions are typically excellent, elevating the private club experience.

The Not So Good

Some golfers note that a few holes can feel formulaic, particularly around the shared double green, and that the challenge from water hazards can penalize higher handicappers. Increased flexibility around pace of play and expanded practice areas would enhance the member experience.
