Course Report

The course originally had just 6 holes and was patronized by Vietnam’s last emperor, Bao Dai, before growing into an internationally acclaimed 18-hole layout.

About

Dalat Palace Golf Club, established in 1922, stretches over rolling highlands at 5,000 feet above sea level. This award-winning course is renowned for its bentgrass greens, inventive holes, French colonial history, and breathtaking views of Xuan Huong Lake. The course was built at the behest of Emperor Bao Dai, the last emperor of Vietnam, who was an avid golfer.

Caddie Tip

The elevated location means swirling winds can affect club selection—bring extra club on uphill par-3s and trust your caddie’s advice for reading the slick bentgrass greens, which are rare in Southeast Asia. Avoid aggressive play with unfamiliar lines, especially near Xuan Huong Lake’s water features.

The Main Challenge

The championship layout offers elevation changes, strategic bunkering, and long approaches over water, especially daunting in windy conditions. Mishits near the greens can result in fast run-offs due to the slick bentgrass turf. Accuracy is essential—errant shots often punished by trees or hazards.

The Good

Golfers praise the stunning scenery with views of French colonial buildings, pine-clad hills, and tranquil Xuan Huong Lake. The cool highland air makes play comfortable year-round, and the classic, strategic routing delivers variety and interest on every hole—very rare for Southeast Asia.

The Not So Good

Players occasionally note slower pace of play on weekends and wish for improved fairway conditioning during the rainy season. Lunches and clubhouse F&B options are sometimes described as below expectations compared to the on-course experience.
