Course Report

Nearly every hole at Heritage Shores features water, setting the stage for an exciting round and adding challenge on most shots.

About

Heritage Shores Golf Club is a public, links-style course designed by Arthur Hills, opened in 2007. Stretching just over 7,000 yards, the course is set within a vibrant 55+ community and features wide fairways, strategic water hazards, and one of Delaware’s top practice facilities. The routing is player-friendly yet challenging, making it a favorite in Southern Delaware.

Caddie Tip

Many holes have water hazards in play, so favor the safer side of fairways and avoid risky attempts over water unless you’re confident. Study the GPS in your golf cart for carry distances before taking on any forced carries, especially when wind is up. Bailing out is usually the smart play on approach shots.

The Main Challenge

The course’s greatest challenge is the strategic placement of water hazards, which come into play on 17 of 18 holes. Players must carefully plot their shots and manage risk, particularly on approach shots and forced carries. Wind can be a factor, especially on open holes, making club selection critical.

The Good

Golfers love the well-maintained greens and the strategic challenge provided by the abundance of water hazards. The Arthur Hills design rewards thoughtful play, and the course consistently receives praise for its friendly staff and impressive practice facilities, making it popular among regulars and visitors alike.

The Not So Good

Some visitors note pace of play can lag on busy weekends, especially with water hazards causing lost balls. There are occasional comments about conditioning on certain fairways during the height of summer. More on-course restrooms or water stations would improve the overall experience.

Club selection and accuracy are crucial on this memorable closer.

The spacious 28,000-square-foot clubhouse includes multiple dining options, event spaces, locker rooms, and a pro shop. Members and visitors also enjoy access to pools, a fitness center, bocce and tennis courts, and various social and wellness amenities.
