Course Report

Ironhorse Golf Club was voted the No. 1 Public Golf Course in Kansas by Golf Digest soon after its opening and remains the only Troon Golf-managed course in the Kansas City metro area.

About

Ironhorse Golf Club, designed by Dr. Michael Hurdzan, is an acclaimed public course located just 20 minutes from downtown Kansas City. Known for its natural layout and challenging design, Ironhorse is recognized for top-tier conditions and a reputation as one of Kansas's best public golf facilities.

Caddie Tip

Pay special attention to the native grasses and water hazards that come into play on several holes. Club selection is key, especially with some forced carries off the tee and on approach shots. Use the practice areas to get a feel for the quick, sloping greens before your round.

The Main Challenge

Ironhorse’s toughest stretch comes on the back nine, where tight fairways and hazards demand accurate shot-making. The sloping greens require precise approaches, especially under pressure. The course’s length and risk-reward par 5s challenge golfers of all skill levels.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise Ironhorse for its well-maintained greens and picturesque setting. The course offers a blend of challenge and playability—water features and undulating fairways keep every round interesting. Many appreciate the convenient practice facilities and the welcoming, professional staff.

The Not So Good

Some players comment on slow pace of play during busy weekend mornings and wish for a quicker check-in experience. Occasional wet spots on fairways after heavy rain can affect playability. Improved signage on a few holes would help new visitors navigate the course.
