Course Report

Lake of Isles is owned by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation and sits across from the famed Foxwoods Resort Casino, making it one of the premier casino-affiliated golf destinations in the country.

About

Lake of Isles North Course, designed by Rees Jones and opened in 2005, is a premier resort layout ranked among the top in Connecticut. Offering 18 holes stretching over natural rolling terrain with island greens and exceptional views, the course blends strategic architecture with lush conditioning and is noted for its daily-fee and casino guest accessibility.

Caddie Tip

Club selection is critical, especially for the many forced carries and elevation changes. Play conservatively off the tee on tighter holes such as the opener, favor center-green targets to avoid deep bunkers, and treat the signature 2nd hole with respect—long is safer than short. The greens are undulating and usually run true, so prioritize speed and reading breaks on approach and putts.

The Main Challenge

Lake of Isles North's main challenge lies in its length, numerous forced carries, and demanding shot values, especially from the back and middle tees. Tight landing areas, deep bunkering, and risk-reward decisions by the water increase pressure. Even accomplished players are tested by the high slope rating and the penal nature of small misses around multi-tiered greens.

The Good

Golfers widely praise the stunning setting of Lake of Isles North, particularly the way its holes integrate with the 90-acre namesake lake. The island greens and dramatic elevation changes leave a memorable impression, and the conditioning is reliably strong even after wet weather, with smooth greens and playable turf almost year-round.

The Not So Good

The steep terrain and large property make the course very difficult, if not impossible, to walk, which some golfers feel detracts from the classic golf experience. Additionally, the premium price—especially during peak times—can seem high, and pace of play can back up on busy weekends due to the challenging holes and high demand.

Signature Hole:

#

2

No items found.

The par 3 2nd hole is a dramatic downhill one-shotter spanning roughly 184 yards, featuring a breathtaking narrow island green with water short and right. Guarded by deep bunkers and little margin for error, it demands precision and nerves from tee to green and delivers a memorable early highlight in the round.

Clubhouse

No items found.

A 50,000-square-foot clubhouse includes locker rooms, upscale dining overlooking the lake, spacious event facilities, and golf shop services. The amenities reflect Native American influences and cater to both daily-fee visitors and tournament groups, with attentive service and scenic post-round dining options.

Practice Facilities

Lake of Isles boasts a state-of-the-art practice facility with a 60,000 sq. ft. grass range, large putting and chipping areas, as well as four year-round indoor teaching studios equipped with advanced technology like TrackMan and Toptracer.
