Course Report

From December to April, golfers can frequently spot humpback whales breaching offshore during their round.

About

Punta Mita Bahia Course, a Jack Nicklaus Signature design opened in 2009, stretches 7,035 yards and offers lush tropical landscaping with five holes along the Pacific Ocean. The par-72 course features Miniverde greens and Bermuda fairways, and is reserved for club members and guests of the local resorts. Its undulating layout presents both challenge and extraordinary sea views.

Caddie Tip

With undulating greens and prevailing ocean breezes, aim for the center of greens and pay special attention to club selection on exposed holes. On the par-3s and oceanfront holes, allow extra margin for wind and read the subtle slopes carefully—the ball tends to break toward the water.

The Main Challenge

Complex green complexes, undulating fairways, and strong coastal breezes challenge players on approach shots. The course frequently tests distance control and club selection, especially on the seaside par-3s and long par-4s, where wind and tricky putting surfaces can quickly turn pars into bogeys.

The Good

Golfers rave about the spectacular ocean views, especially across the holes that play directly along the Pacific, with opportunities to see marine life such as whales in season. The combination of luxurious resort amenities, attentive service, and Nicklaus's clever routing makes each round feel memorable.

The Not So Good

Players occasionally mention that some fairways can be quite firm and difficult to hold in the dry season, and resort pace can lag during busy vacation periods. Access is limited to resort guests or members, making it less accessible for local or traveling public golfers.

The expansive clubhouse offers a pro shop, elegant locker rooms, grill restaurant, bar, panoramic terraces, and attendants who provide refreshments at multiple stations. Relaxation and convenience are central, with spa-like amenities, ocean-view dining, and easy access to neighboring resort facilities.
