Course Report

Ria Bintan Golf Club was the first in Indonesia to achieve Certified Audubon International Classic Sanctuary status for its environmental stewardship, showcasing both sustainable practices and natural beauty.

About

Ria Bintan Golf Club Ocean Course is a Gary Player-designed seaside 18-hole layout lauded for its dramatic routing through tropical jungle and along the South China Sea. A regular award-winner and considered among Asia's best, the course features beautiful conditioning, memorable vistas, and a range of shotmaking challenges that suit both experienced and casual golfers.

Caddie Tip

Pay special attention to wind direction changes throughout your round, especially on the coastal holes. Approach greens with caution, as the putting surfaces are subtly contoured and can be slick, particularly when dry. Local caddies provide valuable reads and wind advice—trust their experience, especially on seaside approach shots.

The Main Challenge

The biggest challenge is managing wind and club selection on the seaside holes, especially holes 7, 8, and 9, where exposure to the open ocean can dramatically alter play. The routing’s mix of coastal and jungle holes demands precision off the tee, while the complex greens require confident putting and solid reads—especially when conditioned fast.

The Good

Golfers consistently rave about the breathtaking ocean scenery, especially from holes 7 through 9, including stretches where the course hugs the South China Sea. The diverse routing, combining jungle corridors with open seaside holes, provides a unique and memorable experience, enhanced by attentive service and a welcoming resort atmosphere.

The Not So Good

Some guests mention that the fairways can get soft during prolonged rainy periods, which are common given the tropical climate. Drainage improvements and even firmer turf conditions would help, especially on holes closer to the jungle. Occasional maintenance on bunkers has also been suggested to match the high standards of the greens.
