Course Report
At 7,772 yards from the back tees, Sandia is the longest golf course in New Mexico.
About
Sandia Golf Club is a Scott Miller-designed championship course that opened in 2005 and is part of the Sandia Resort & Casino. Stretching up to 7,772 yards, it is the longest course in New Mexico and offers a blend of lush fairways, rugged desert surroundings, and panoramic views of the Sandia Mountains, catering to golfers of all skill levels.
Caddie Tip
Embrace the elevation change—tee shots may fly farther, but wind can change direction quickly. Favor center of fairway play and leave approaches below the hole, as greens can be quick and firm with subtle undulations that punish bold puts.
The Main Challenge
The course challenges players with length, elevation shifts, and high desert winds, as well as 48 bunkers and undulating greens. The inward nine, particularly the finishing holes, exposes golfers to unpredictable winds and forced carries over desert terrain, demanding accurate shot-making.
The Good
Golfers rave about the beautiful panoramic views of the Sandia Mountains, the dramatic desert landscape, and the strong closing stretch. The friendly staff, the well-maintained course conditions, and proximity to a full resort and casino round out an exceptional resort golf experience.
The Not So Good
Many visitors cite the desert rough as especially penal for errant shots, and some wish for more shaded areas or water stations, given New Mexico’s heat and dryness during peak months. Wind can be a persistent challenge and slow play may occur during busy weekends.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th hole at Sandia Golf Club is a stunning par 4 finishing hole that plays directly toward the clubhouse and the dramatic Sandia Mountain backdrop. The spacious fairway and expansive green are protected by bunkers, creating both a scenic and challenging conclusion to the round, especially with wind and elevation shifts.
Clubhouse
The 16,000 sq ft clubhouse features a golf shop, locker rooms, a full-service restaurant and grill, and a large patio overlooking the 18th green and Sandia Mountains. There are spaces for events, modern amenities, and easy access to the resort and casino.
Practice Facilities
Extensive practice facilities include a full-size driving range with double-tier all-grass tee, a large 10,000 sq ft putting green, a dedicated short game area, and a practice bunker. PGA instruction and club fitting are available.
