Course Report

Sebonack sits between the historic National Golf Links of America and Shinnecock Hills, two of America's most renowned courses, and was co-designed by two architects—Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak—who had never collaborated before.

About

Sebonack Golf Club is an ultra-exclusive private course on 300 acres in Southampton, New York, designed by Jack Nicklaus and Tom Doak. Opened in 2006, it quickly gained acclaim for its innovative architectural blend, undulating terrain, and breathtaking bay views. Sebonack has hosted prestigious events, including the 2013 U.S. Women's Open, and stands out for its unique blend of modern challenge and classic Hamptons scenery.

Caddie Tip

Focus on placement rather than distance, especially off the tee. Many landing areas narrow quickly with waste bunkers and dunes waiting for misses. Be mindful of swirling winds from the bay, and don't be above the hole on Sebonack's fast, contoured greens—downhill chips and putts can get away fast.

The Main Challenge

Sebonack's greatest challenge is its combination of punishing rough, undulating fairways, and large, swift greens. Strategic course management is a must, as errant shots can leave difficult recoveries from dunes or hazards. Changing coastal winds demand constant adjustments, and subtle green movements require excellent touch and imagination.

The Good

Members and guests rave about the world-class views of Great Peconic Bay and Cold Spring Pond, along with the creative layout that blends Nicklaus's bold bunkering with Doak's subtle contouring. The course offers variety every round and presents a fair but formidable test for all skill levels in a truly special setting.

The Not So Good

Some visitors feel the green complexes, while visually stunning, can verge on excessively severe, making recovery play extremely demanding. Additionally, the exclusivity and high cost of membership limit broader access and generate mixed feelings among even frequent high-end golfers.

Signature Hole:

#

18

No items found.

The par-4 18th at Sebonack finishes along the edge of Great Peconic Bay, demanding a strategic tee shot with water looming right and waste areas left. Its green juts invitingly toward the bay and clubhouse, making for a dramatic, panoramic closing hole that rewards aggressive play but punishes lapses in focus. The setting and shot values create a memorable finish to the round.

Clubhouse

The elegant clubhouse features luxury locker rooms, a fine dining restaurant with panoramic bay views, multiple lounges, and private meeting spaces. Nine guest cottages and attentive staff create a five-star experience for members and invited guests, while golf services include custom bag storage, a top-tier pro shop, and private event spaces.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Sebonack offers a full driving range with target greens, a dedicated short-game area with multiple bunker complexes, and finely maintained putting greens that mimic course conditions.
