Course Report
Tom Weiskopf, the famed designer, regarded Snake River Sporting Club as one of his favorite courses, and the layout has won the distinction of Wyoming’s #1 private golf experience.
About
Snake River Sporting Club is a private 18-hole golf course near Jackson, Wyoming, spanning over 7,500 yards and offering mountain scenery alongside the Snake River. Designed by Tom Weiskopf, the course harmonizes natural beauty and challenging holes, making it a top-rated golf experience in the state and a destination for discerning golfers.
Caddie Tip
The course demands precise tee shots due to the ever-present wind and native areas along fairways. On approach shots, favor the center of greens rather than aiming at tucked pins, since runoffs and subtle contours around the greens can yield challenging recoveries.
The Main Challenge
The most daunting challenges at Snake River Sporting Club come from its narrow landing areas flanked by native grasses and the unpredictable winds that swirl from the mountains. Green complexes have subtle undulation and false fronts, demanding accurate approach shots and strong short game skills.
The Good
Golfers rave about the breathtaking Snake River canyon setting, with panoramic views of the mountains and the shimmering river lining several holes. The quiet, private atmosphere and natural isolation also provide a memorable experience, rarely matched by other courses in Wyoming.
The Not So Good
Some guests have noted that the long, mountainous layout can be physically demanding to walk and may require carts for many players. The high elevation and design can make for tough lies and brisk pace on breezy days, which can add difficulty for the less experienced.
Signature Hole:
#
12
The signature hole at Snake River Sporting Club is the 12th hole, a 233-yard par-3 that plays over a marshy creek area with a high-lipped bunker guarding the left side of the green. This hole offers stunning views of the Jackson Hole mountains, meandering creeks, and winding bridges, making it both a strategic challenge and a scenic highlight of the course. The flat green demands precision, and the dramatic natural surroundings create a memorable golfing experience.
Clubhouse
Facilities include a modern clubhouse with a pro shop, restaurant, locker rooms, and lounge with panoramic mountain views. Additional amenities include member dining, social event spaces, outdoor terrace, and concierge services for both golf and sporting club activities.
Practice Facilities
The club offers a spacious driving range, large putting green, and dedicated short game area. Instruction with teaching professionals is available. High-quality practice balls and fine turf simulate course conditions, serving both members and their guests.
