Course Report

The course occupies 1.5 miles of crescent-shaped beach and sand dunes, and was once voted Golf Digest's Best New International Course.

About

Trump International Golf Club Ireland, designed by Greg Norman and renovated by Dr. Martin Hawtree, is a classic links course set among coastal dunes beside Doughmore Bay. Opened in 2002, it features panoramic Atlantic views from 16 holes and offers challenging play through natural terrain. The setting and character make it a must-play in Ireland.

Caddie Tip

Local caddies recommend keeping your ball low on windy holes and playing conservative lines along the dune sides. Approach shots should favor the safe side of the greens—especially from tough fairway lies—and always keep an eye on unpredictable wind shifts coming off Doughmore Bay.

The Main Challenge

Wind exposure from the Atlantic is the biggest challenge, especially on approach shots and exposed greens. The course demands precise control over ball flight, with deep natural dunes and penal fescue rough punishing stray shots. The finishing stretch features intimidating carries and risky strategic decisions under constant scenic pressure.

The Good

Golfers love the authentic links experience, with 16 holes offering stunning ocean views and dramatic dune settings. The natural routing and unique hole identities create a memorable journey from first tee to final green, and the course rewards strategic play, especially under ever-changing seaside conditions.

The Not So Good

Some golfers comment on unpredictable fairway lies due to deep dunes and winds, and note the rough can be severe off line. Drainage and weather-related closures during winter months can also restrict play, as the area is subject to heavy rainfall and coastal storms.
