Course Report
The Golden Palm is known for its unique bunker style, with clean-edged bunkers on the fairway side and heavier rough behind, influenced by Australia's sandbelt courses.
About
The Golden Palm at Trump National Doral Miami is a resort course originally designed by Robert Von Hagge and Bruce Devlin in the 1960s, most recently renovated by Gil Hanse. It features a traditional Floridian layout, gently contoured greens, tree-lined fairways, and water in play on the majority of holes. Known for strategic bunkering and a dramatic finishing hole.
Caddie Tip
Play conservatively off the tee to avoid the numerous water hazards, especially on the back nine where trouble lurks near the greens. Consider laying up on dogleg holes and take extra care on approaches as the contoured greens can send off-line shots into difficult recovery positions, particularly on the closing holes.
The Main Challenge
The greatest challenge is avoiding the frequent water hazards, with 15 water holes in play, most critically on the back nine. Recovery from uniquely styled bunkers adds to difficulty, and the greens' contours demand a solid short game. The 18th hole serves as a fitting climax with a forced carry to an island green.
The Good
Golfers love the Golden Palm for its challenging yet fair layout, pristine conditioning, and standout finishing hole. The blend of classic Florida scenery, strategic design elements, and the drama of playing to an island green create a distinct and memorable experience that appeals to a wide range of players.
The Not So Good
Some guests note that pace of play can slow during busy periods, and a few mention the greens can be unforgiving for higher handicaps due to heavy contouring. Pricing, especially for resort guests, is also a regular talking point for those seeking better value in the Miami area.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th hole is a dramatic par 4 finishing hole, stretching up to 470 yards from the back tees, and is famed for its island green. After navigating a tough fairway, players face a full approach shot to a green entirely surrounded by water, demanding both strategy and nerve to close the round.
Clubhouse
Amenities include a modern clubhouse with upscale locker rooms, a full-service restaurant and bar, banquet space, pro shop with the latest equipment and apparel, spa, fitness center, and access to all resort services for guests and players.
Practice Facilities
The club features a comprehensive practice area with full-length driving range, dedicated short game and putting zones, and a golf academy staffed by experienced instructors. High-end rental clubs are available and guests can expect professional range service and amenities.
