About

Gallardo helped transform land originally intended for a Grand Prix racetrack into one of Europe’s most celebrated golf resorts, the PGA Golf de Catalunya.

Ángel Gallardo is a Spanish golf course architect and former professional golfer who has had a profound impact on golf in Spain and Europe. After an accomplished playing career that included five professional wins and a decade on the European Tour, Gallardo transitioned into golf course architecture and coaching. His most notable achievement as an architect was co-designing the PGA Golf de Catalunya (now Camiral), alongside Neil Coles, in the late 1990s. The Stadium Course at Camiral, conceived to rival the best tournament venues, has hosted multiple European Tour events and is slated to host the Ryder Cup in 2031. Gallardo’s architectural style emphasizes challenging play, natural beauty, and exceptional spectator sightlines. In addition to his design work, he has served as vice-chairman and ambassador of the European Tour, championing golf’s growth on the continent. Gallardo’s legacy in golf architecture is marked by his dedication to elevating tournament course standards and promoting golf’s development throughout Spain.
