Geoff Shackelford is an American golf course architect, author, and influential commentator within the golf industry. Known for his passion for both classic and contemporary golf course design, he has contributed to the restoration and design of several prominent layouts. Shackelford co-designed Rustic Canyon Golf Course in California with Gil Hanse, a course lauded by Golf Digest as the Best New Affordable Public Course in America for 2002. He also played a key role in the development of the Horse Course at The Prairie Club in Nebraska and led restorations at Los Angeles Country Club, notably reviving the original George Thomas design. Shackelford has taught at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design and is a prolific author, having published eleven books on golf, including historical works and design analysis. His expertise and enthusiasm for classic design principles have positioned him as one of modern golf’s most influential writers and architects.
