Hannes Thorsteinsson

Hannes Thorsteinsson is an influential Icelandic golf course architect, recognized for his pivotal role in shaping modern golf in Iceland. Over his career, he has designed or contributed to more than 30 golf course projects in the country, helping to expand and modernize the sport’s presence in Iceland’s unique landscapes. Among his most notable achievements are the expansion of the historic Keilir Golf Club to 18 holes, the creation of the Westman Islands 18-hole course, the design of Oddur Golf Club’s original 9-hole layout (and its later expansion to 18 holes), and the scenic Husafell Golf Club. Thorsteinsson is credited with bringing creative vision and adaptability to Icelandic golf design, frequently working with challenging volcanic and glacial terrains. His courses are known for integrating natural Icelandic features like lava fields, rivers, and birch forests, providing golfers with both a strategic challenge and striking scenery.
