Jorge Santana da Silva, born in Setúbal, Portugal, is a distinguished golf course architect whose career began in 1981 during the transformation of Santo da Serra in Madeira. Trained as a geometrician and surveyor engineer, he initially worked in civil engineering before turning to golf course design and construction full-time. Jorge was mentored by Robert Trent Jones Sr. and later partnered with Cabell Robinson, contributing to several renowned projects across Europe and North Africa. Since 1994, he has led his own firm, Golf Design Lda., delivering notable designs such as Quinta da Deveza, Oeiras Golf & Residence, and Laranjal at Quinta do Lago. His approach emphasizes adapting courses to the native land and environmental considerations, resulting in visually appealing, playable, and sustainable layouts. He is a senior member of the EIGCA and has received honors, including the Gold Medal of Merit from the Portuguese Golf Federation in 2011. Santana da Silva continues influencing the design of modern golf courses internationally.
