About

Mike Young not only designed but now personally owns and operates his very first golf course, The Fields in LaGrange, Georgia, making him uniquely invested in both the architecture and daily experience of one of his own creations.

Mike Young is a renowned golf course architect based in Georgia, widely recognized for his minimalist approach to golf course design. He began his career in the mid-1980s, launching onto the scene with The Fields Golf Club in LaGrange, Georgia. Young's design philosophy emphasizes strategic challenges that emerge naturally from the landscape, steering away from manufactured features. His acclaimed Cateechee Golf Club in Hartwell, Georgia, earned national recognition as one of Golf Digest’s “Best New Courses” and was the first Audubon International Signature Sanctuary course in the state. Over more than three decades, Young has designed and renovated numerous courses, primarily across the Southeastern United States but also internationally. He is notable for managing and later owning his first project, The Fields, which has served as both a professional and personal passion. Young’s work is celebrated for its lasting playability, environmental integration, and understated innovation within the golf architecture community.
