About
Sundblom became the very first Swedish golf course architect and is credited with designing more than a dozen courses, setting the foundation for Swedish golf architecture.
Rafael Sundblom was a pioneering Swedish golf course architect who left a profound mark on Swedish golf, notably as the country’s first homegrown golf architect. Beginning his career as construction manager for John Morrison and Harry Colt's project at Stockholms Golfklubb in 1932, Sundblom transitioned into design, ultimately becoming Sweden’s leading architect during the early expansion of golf in the nation. He went on to design over a dozen courses, with Halmstad’s original 18-hole layout (opened in 1938) widely regarded as his finest achievement. Sundblom also played a pivotal role in the founding and design of Visby GK, working alongside Nils Sköld to transform the Kronholmen peninsula into one of Sweden’s most scenic golf venues. His innovative vision and commitment to the natural landscapes helped create courses renowned for their beauty and playability, establishing benchmarks for future generations of Scandinavian golf architects.
