Scott Macpherson is a distinguished New Zealand-born golf course architect, recognized for his award-winning international design firm based in Edinburgh, Scotland. He discovered golf at age 14, eventually representing Paraparaumu Beach Golf Club as a junior, which sparked his lifelong passion for course architecture. After earning an honours degree in Horticulture, he specialized in environmentally sensitive course design at the University of California – Davis. Significant early career milestones included working for Peter Thomson in Australia and Denis Griffiths in the USA and at St Andrews Bay, now Fairmont St Andrews. In 2004, Macpherson established his own company, producing acclaimed projects such as the Colt Course at Close House, the redesign of the Royal Wellington Golf Club in New Zealand, and ongoing collaborations at Millbrook Resort. He is also an author, with notable works including 'St Andrews: The Evolution of the Old Course' and 'Golf’s Royal Clubs.' Macpherson is recognized for pioneering sustainable design and has received several awards for his environmental commitment.
