Thomas Himmel is a distinguished German golf course architect with over 30 years of experience shaping golfing landscapes across Europe. After studying civil engineering at TU Munich, he trained at the British Institute of Golf Course Architects. His passion for golf began in childhood, developed into a successful playing career—he won the German Amateur Championships three times (1991, 1992, and 1993)—and then transitioned into design. Himmel founded Himmel Golf Design in 1992 and has since led the completion of more than 60 courses, ranging from championship layouts to compact facilities. His approach emphasizes artistic sense and innovative planning, sustainable construction methods, and close client collaboration. Notable projects include the masterplan renovation for Bad Ems Golf Club and the world-class Son Gual course in Mallorca, renowned for its challenging yet playable design. Himmel’s deep understanding of the game, gained both as a competitor and designer, informs all his strategic decisions, setting him apart in European golf architecture.
