Course Report
The club's property directly borders the legendary Augusta National Golf Club, resulting in frequent confusion among non-locals and unique neighborly golf history.
About
Augusta Country Club is a classic, private 18-hole course in Augusta, Georgia, founded in 1899 and designed by Donald Ross. Known for its traditional parkland layout, tree-lined fairways, and proximity to Augusta National, the course underwent a major restoration in 2001 to restore its Ross-era features, making it a celebrated example of early American golf architecture.
Caddie Tip
Navigate the subtle Ross greens by aiming for the correct section on your approach—putts can be deceivingly quick and break more than they appear. Club selection off the tee is crucial; position is more valuable than length on most holes. Trust your short game and avoid getting above the hole to score well.
The Main Challenge
The hardest part of Augusta Country Club is the precision required off the tee and on approach shots, as narrow landing areas and contoured Ross greens demand accuracy over power. Getting out of position quickly leads to tough recoveries and challenging up-and-downs, especially when greens run fast.
The Good
Golfers consistently rave about the classic Donald Ross design, which rewards thoughtful play and offers a timeless ‘step back in time’ feel. The setting, historical touches, and challenge of the greens provide a memorable experience for traditionalists and architecture fans alike.
The Not So Good
Some members and guests would like to see additional work done on drainage and cart path placement. The proximity to Augusta National sometimes overshadows ACC’s own rich history, and a few holes altered in recent years have divided opinion among long-time players.
