Course Report

Baltimore Country Club is one of only two clubs worldwide to have hosted every major USGA and PGA event, including the U.S. Open, PGA Championship, U.S. Amateur, and Walker Cup.

About

The East Course at Baltimore Country Club is a classic A.W. Tillinghast design from 1924, masterfully restored in 2015. Known for dramatic hilly terrain, strategic bunkering, bold greens, and rich history, it's consistently ranked in America's top 100 classic courses. The club has hosted numerous significant national championships and is recognized for a tradition of excellence and exclusivity.

Caddie Tip

Pay close attention to the greens; their subtle but strong slopes can make putting especially challenging. Position your ball below the hole whenever possible and avoid attacking tucked pins without a safe angle—the slopes and large bunkers can quickly turn a good score into a struggle.

The Main Challenge

The East Course's main challenge lies in its large, steeply sloped greens and strategically placed bunkers. Many holes require precise placement on approach to avoid treacherous putts or difficult recoveries. Navigating the property’s natural elevation changes demands both thoughtful club selection and endurance.

The Good

Golfers rave about the classic, strategic design and the way Tillinghast used the hilly terrain to create memorable holes with challenging angles and approaches. The walk through history, detailed restoration, and championship pedigree give every round a special sense of place and tradition.

The Not So Good

Some guests and members would prefer slightly more consistent green speeds during peak summer months and wish the course was more accessible to non-members. The challenge of the terrain can also be physically demanding for some older players.

Signature Hole:

#

18

No items found.

The 18th hole, a par 4, is a dramatic, uphill finisher that showcases Tillinghast's flair for closing drama. Players face a tee shot from the valley aiming to reach an elevated fairway, with strategic bunkering demanding accuracy. The approach to a large, multi-contoured green tests nerves and skill, making it an unforgettable finish to the round.

Clubhouse

No items found.

Classic and elegant, the clubhouse offers multiple dining rooms, event spaces, locker rooms, a pro shop, and traditional lounges. Service is a highlight, with members enjoying a top-tier experience befitting one of America’s most prestigious clubs.
