Course Report

Barsebäck Ocean Course has hosted both the Scandinavian Masters and the Solheim Cup, attracting legends like Sir Nick Faldo and Annika Sörenstam.

About

Barsebäck Ocean Course is Sweden’s most acclaimed championship layout, designed by Ture Bruce in 1969. It offers a unique blend of parkland and links-style golf over 18 holes, stretching along the scenic Øresund Strait. Known for hosting major European tournaments, the course’s conditioning and challenging sloping greens make it a standout destination in Scandinavian golf.

Caddie Tip

Play conservatively for the first seven tree-lined holes to stay in position, but open your shoulders and embrace the wind from hole 8 onward as you approach the spectacular links stretch by the sea. Take extra club when the ocean winds rise, particularly on holes 9 to 11.

The Main Challenge

Barsebäck’s greatest test comes with swirling seaside winds on its spectacular run of holes bordering the Øresund. Quick, sloped greens and strategic bunkers everywhere demand precise shot placement and thoughtful approaches. When weather conditions toughen, especially on the coastal stretch, scoring well requires creativity and nerve.

The Good

Golfers are captivated by holes 8 to 11, which run directly along the sea, delivering true links character and breathtaking views. The variety throughout the course—from parkland woods to open links—creates distinct and memorable stretches, while consistently excellent conditions and a strong tournament pedigree add to the allure.

The Not So Good

Some visitors find the routing fragmented, especially as the true links holes cover only a portion of the course, with much of the layout tree-lined inland. The clubhouse, while functional, may feel plain compared to more luxurious venues. Crowded tee times at peak periods can occasionally affect pace.

Signature Hole:

#

9

No items found.

The par 4 9th hugs the Øresund shoreline with the fairway running directly beside the beach. It requires precision off the tee and a well-judged approach, as the green is exposed to sea breezes and protected by bunkers. The spectacular waterside views make it the most memorable hole on the Ocean Course.

Clubhouse

No items found.

Expect a well-equipped clubhouse with restaurant and bar, spacious locker rooms, professional shop, and conference facilities. Outdoor terraces offer views of the course, and there are additional activities such as swimming and tennis within the larger resort.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

The club features a modern driving range, short-game areas for chipping and pitching, multiple putting greens, an indoor academy, and on-site instruction via Barsebäck Golf Academy. There is also golf simulator access during colder months.
