Course Report

Diamond Creek regularly appears in Golf Digest’s Top 100 courses in the U.S. and is also home to the world-famous Artisanal restaurant, acclaimed for its fine dining and culinary excellence.

About

Diamond Creek is a Tom Fazio-designed private mountain course in Banner Elk, North Carolina, renowned for its pristine conditioning and integration into the Blue Ridge landscape. Opened in 2003, this exclusive club features 18 holes, a par 70 layout, award-winning clubhouse, top-tier practice facilities, and stunning views, consistently ranking among America’s 100 greatest golf courses.

Caddie Tip

With elevation changes and fast, undulating greens measuring 12+ on the stimpmeter, club selection is critical at Diamond Creek—especially when shots play uphill or downhill through mountain air. Trust yardages, but always factor in wind and elevation. Around greens, play for plenty of roll out, especially on downhill putts.

The Main Challenge

Diamond Creek’s toughest challenge is managing shots through its dramatic elevation changes, especially into or across swirling mountain winds. Fast, firm, and sloping Bentgrass greens demand precise approach play and sharp short-game skills. Several risk-reward holes test both strategy and nerve from tee to green.

The Good

Members rave about the spectacular mountain scenery and the tranquil, secluded ambience throughout the round. The course’s layout offers awe-inspiring elevation shifts and frequent panoramic Blue Ridge views, making every hole feel unique and memorable. Its exclusivity and commitment to pristine conditions further enhance the overall experience.

The Not So Good

Access is extremely limited due to its private, exclusive nature—many golfers wish there were more opportunities for guest play or member events. Some find the dramatic elevation changes challenging for walking and suggest more walking paths or better transportation around certain holes.
