Course Report
Cabot Cliffs was designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, the same team behind several iconic courses, and it is built on land formerly used for mining with many holes routed atop breathtaking seaside cliffs.
About
Cabot Cliffs, designed by Bill Coore and Ben Crenshaw, opened in 2016 on dramatic coastal cliffs in Inverness, Nova Scotia. The course is famed for its rugged links terrain, stunning ocean views, natural dunes, and imaginative routings with an emphasis on shot variety and strategy. It has rapidly achieved global acclaim for both scenery and architecture.
Caddie Tip
Use the local knowledge of your caddie, as subtle wind changes and elevation shifts along the cliffs play a major role, especially on back-nine par 3s. Pay attention to green contours, favor safe targets over hero shots on cliffside holes, and maintain composure facing intimidating visuals.
The Main Challenge
The biggest challenges at Cabot Cliffs are the relentless coastal winds and bold elevation changes. The back nine’s cliffside holes demand absolute focus and shot execution, as errors can result in lost balls or severe penalties. Creative recovery and precise distance control are essential throughout.
The Good
Golfers consistently praise the exhilarating setting of Cabot Cliffs, especially the breathtaking cliffside holes on the back nine. The ever-present ocean vistas and strategic design make each round feel adventurous and memorable, creating lasting impressions regardless of one’s score.
The Not So Good
The natural terrain leads to significant elevation change, making the course a demanding walk, particularly for less fit players. Some visitors wish for expanded cart access or a shuttle system to ease navigation of longer holes and cliff climbs, especially in windy, damp conditions.
Signature Hole:
#
16
The 16th at Cabot Cliffs is an awe-inspiring par 3 that plays directly along the edge of towering coastal cliffs. Golfers face a mid to long iron over a dramatic chasm to a green perched atop the bluff, with the Gulf of St. Lawrence stretching endlessly beyond. The wind is a major factor, elevating the challenge on this unforgettable hole.
Clubhouse
The resort clubhouse features a pro shop, oceanfront patio dining, locker rooms, and comfortable lounges. Off-course amenities include on-site lodging, fine dining, beach activities, and spa services—tailored to both golfers and non-golfers seeking memorable Cape Breton hospitality.
Practice Facilities
Cabot Cliffs provides a full driving range, short game area, and putting green, all with expansive views of the ocean. Facilities are modern, well-maintained, and offer ample space to warm up and work on all aspects of the game pre-round.
