Course Report

The clubhouse was designed in Tudor style by noted architect Ely Jacques Kahn and the course was rated the 30th best in the USA by Golf Digest in 2008.

About

Quaker Ridge Golf Club, designed by A.W. Tillinghast and established in 1916, is a celebrated private club in Scarsdale, New York. Renowned for its challenging parkland layout, immaculate conditions, and historic clubhouse, the course has hosted prestigious events such as the Walker Cup and Curtis Cup. Quaker Ridge exemplifies Tillinghast’s 'strategic course' philosophy, offering both beauty and stern test.

Caddie Tip

Stick to the left side of most fairways to avoid trouble, as many holes have out-of-bounds right and strategically placed bunkers left. Control your approach shots—greens can be very firm and fast, demanding focus on both trajectory and distance. Trust your caddie’s reads on the lightning-fast putting surfaces.

The Main Challenge

Quaker Ridge’s toughest test is its combination of length and premium on accuracy; wooded fairways with strategic bunkering demand precise placement. The thick rough and lightning-fast, contoured greens elevate the challenge, punishing even slightly errant shots and requiring thoughtful planning and execution on every hole.

The Good

Members and guests rave about the design variety and the elite conditioning, as well as the tranquil, secluded setting shielded from the outside world—rare given the club’s proximity to New York City. Its historic ambiance and strict standards have built a lasting reputation for being one of the finest clubs in America.

The Not So Good

A common complaint is the firmness and speed of the greens, which can verge on unplayable for some players, especially during drier periods. The out-of-bounds along several holes also penalizes minor misses, leaving higher-handicap players feeling punished.

Signature Hole:

#

9

No items found.

The ninth hole, a par 3, is renowned for its small, well-protected green. Precise shot-making is demanded, as any miss can leave a challenging up-and-down from deep bunkers or thick rough. With limited margin for error and a narrow target, it is an iconic Tillinghast one-shotter that encapsulates the course’s demanding style.

Clubhouse

A stately Tudor-style clubhouse offers locker rooms, fine dining, lounges, and event space. Tennis courts, a pool, and full-service golf shop complement the experience, supported by elite staff and a traditional, welcoming atmosphere for members and guests.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Expect premier practice facilities including a driving range, short game area, and indoor simulators. The club’s resources are available year-round for member instruction and game improvement, supporting golfers in every aspect of their preparation.
