Course Report

Oak Hill’s East Course is the only club in the world to have hosted three PGA Championships, three U.S. Opens, a Ryder Cup, and multiple amateur championships.

About

Oak Hill Country Club's East Course, masterfully designed by Donald Ross in 1926, is renowned for its demanding layout featuring tree-lined fairways, strategic bunkering, and lightning-fast greens. Repeatedly ranked among the world's top courses, it has hosted multiple major championships and is celebrated for its immaculate conditions and classic parkland setting.

Caddie Tip

Favor the fairway side away from trouble on every tee shot, as tree-lined corridors punish misses harshly. Pay special attention on approach shots—leaving the ball below the hole is key on Ross’s sloping greens to avoid lightning-fast downhill putts, especially late in the season when green speeds peak.

The Main Challenge

Oak Hill East’s greatest challenge is its tree-lined, tight fairways which demand extreme accuracy off the tee. Deep, strategically placed bunkers and thick rough exacerbate mistakes, while undulating and lightning-fast greens reward only the most precise approach shots and confident putting. Every aspect demands respect and a strategic plan.

The Good

Golfers universally praise Oak Hill East for its exceptional championship heritage, classical parkland beauty, and Donald Ross’s brilliant use of terrain and angles. The consistency and speed of the greens combined with a world-class routing create an unforgettable championship-caliber experience that challenges elite players while rewarding course management and precision.

The Not So Good

The primary critique focuses on the tree density, which some argue has narrowed playing corridors and diminished certain original design intents. Occasional concerns about the brisk pace demanded during major events also arise, and in wet springs, rough can become punitive for regular play.

Signature Hole:

#

13

No items found.

No. 13, the par 5 'Hill of Fame,' heads back uphill toward the clubhouse and is Oak Hill’s most notable par 5. Allens Creek cuts across the fairway at 325 yards, forcing most players to layup short, leaving an uphill approach. The amphitheater setting and deep bunkering make this hole both beautiful and a formidable challenge for all golfers.

Clubhouse

The historic clubhouse features fine and casual dining, a full-service pro shop, elegant locker facilities, multiple private event rooms, and outdoor patios offering classic country club luxury. There are also tennis courts, a pool, and social events for members year round.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Oak Hill offers an extensive practice range, dedicated short game area with bunkers, and a large putting green replicating course speeds. The club includes modern locker rooms, fine and casual dining, and multiple lounges, providing top-level support before and after your round.
