About

Tom Fazio has more courses listed in Golf Digest’s ranking of the top 100 U.S. golf courses than any other living architect.

Tom Fazio, born February 10, 1945, in Norristown, Pennsylvania, is considered one of the most distinguished golf course architects of his generation. His journey into golf design began as a teenager in 1962 when he apprenticed under his uncle, George Fazio, a former PGA Tour player and golf course architect. This early exposure gave Tom a strong foundation in engineering, landscaping, and course management.

In the early 1970s, Tom Fazio established his own firm in Jupiter, Florida. Over his prolific career, he has designed more than 120 courses across North, Central, and South America, as well as internationally. Many of his projects have earned spots on Golf Digest’s list of the greatest 100 courses in the United States—more than any other living architect. Notable designs include Shadow Creek in Las Vegas, Pinehurst No. 6 and No. 8 in North Carolina, and Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina, a regular PGA Tour venue.

Fazio’s design philosophy emphasizes harmonizing course layouts with the natural landscape while creating challenging yet visually stunning venues. His courses are praised for their strategic complexity, scenic beauty, and player enjoyment. He has been honored multiple times as “Best Modern Day Golf Course Architect” by Golf Digest and received the prestigious Old Tom Morris Award from the Golf Course Superintendents Association of America in 1995.
