Course Report

Buffalo Ridge is known for its native buffalo herds, often seen grazing near several holes, uniquely integrating wildlife into the golfing experience.

About

Buffalo Ridge Springs, redesigned by Tom Fazio and conservationist Johnny Morris, delivers an engaging par 71 layout rolling through the scenic Ozark hills near Hollister, Missouri. Featuring native grasses, water features, and proximity to free-ranging buffalo, this well-recognized course rates among Missouri’s top public tracks and showcases a strong blend of natural beauty and modern design.

Caddie Tip

Club selection is crucial with significant elevation shifts, swirling Ozark breezes, and forced carries over natural hazards, especially on back-nine par 3s. Safely favor the wider landing areas and take more club on uphill approaches—greens can be slick and well-protected, so leaving approaches below the hole is wise.

The Main Challenge

The combination of undulating fairways, deep bunkering, strategic water hazards, and bold green complexes puts a premium on accurate tee shots and creative approach play. Elevation changes and wind can swing club selection by two or more clubs, especially on back-nine par 3s.

The Good

Golfers rave about the dramatic elevation changes, scenic Ozark views, and how the course blends naturally with its environment. Sightings of roaming buffalo and the creative mix of water features and natural hazards provide both excitement and a strong sense of place, offering a memorable and enjoyable round.

The Not So Good

Some players note that consistent pace of play can occasionally become an issue on busy days, and that the high season rates are a bit steep compared to other Missouri options. A few would prefer even more yardage options for different skill levels.
