Course Report
Cabot Links was built on a former coal mine site and is the first true links golf course ever developed in Canada.
About
Cabot Links is Canada’s first true links course, designed by Rod Whitman on former coal mining land along the Gulf of St. Lawrence. This acclaimed 18-hole layout features rolling seaside dunes, firm and fast turf, and panoramic ocean vistas on every hole, blending Scottish tradition with Canadian coastal beauty for an unrivaled playing experience.
Caddie Tip
Play close attention to wind direction on holes facing the Gulf, especially the closing stretch. Ground game is critical; many greens accept run-up shots. Local caddies recommend studying green contours and relying on bump-and-run approaches more than aerial shots, particularly with strong coastal breezes.
The Main Challenge
The primary challenge is mastering the ground game and handling ever-present winds off the Gulf. Exposed fairways and firm turf reward creative shot-making but punish errant approaches. Many holes feature strategic bunkering and undulating greens. The closing stretch along the water demands precision as weather conditions can shift rapidly.
The Good
Golfers rave about the dramatic ocean views available on every hole, the firm and fast playing surfaces that promote a traditional links experience, and the creative shotmaking required by the contours and winds. The walkable design brings players close to nature and heightens enjoyment of the spectacular coastal setting.
The Not So Good
Weather variability is a common complaint—rain, fog, or strong winds can affect enjoyment and scoring. Some guests mention challenging travel logistics to reach Inverness, as well as premium pricing. Turf can occasionally be impacted by the harsh climate, resulting in patchy areas at season’s edge.
Signature Hole:
#
14
The 14th at Cabot Links, a striking par 3, plays only 100 yards but demands precision. The infinity green juts toward the Gulf of St. Lawrence, offering a breathtaking backdrop of the Atlantic. Mis-clubbing punishes short or long shots, and ocean winds make club selection deceptive. It's short but dramatically memorable.
Clubhouse
The modern clubhouse includes a pro shop, locker rooms, and multiple dining options with panoramic sea views. Amenities extend to on-site lodging, a golf academy, and several restaurants including Cabot Bar and Panorama. Guest services are noted as attentive and focused on a luxury resort experience.
Practice Facilities
Cabot Links offers a driving range, short game area, and putting green, all with ocean views. The facilities are kept in excellent condition, and provide a variety of lies and situations to help players prepare for the challenges of the course. Instruction and clinics are available for guests.
