Course Report
Several holes at Gozzer Ranch are routed along ancient basalt bluffs, giving the course a distinctive mountain-lake character rare in American golf.
About
Gozzer Ranch Golf & Lake Club is a Tom Fazio-designed private course nestled in the mountains above Lake Coeur d’Alene. Opened in 2007, the layout incorporates basalt bluffs, forested hills, and panoramic lake views across its 18 holes. With pristine bentgrass greens and strategic routing, it combines natural beauty and world-class golf in an exclusive environment.
Caddie Tip
Trust the caddies’ advice on approach angles—elevation changes and swirling winds can make club selection tricky, especially on holes exposed to lake breezes. Play safe lines on the cliffside holes rather than attacking pins, and pay attention to green contours, which often break more than they appear from the fairway.
The Main Challenge
The most demanding aspect of Gozzer Ranch is the combination of elevation changes and bold, strategic bunkering. Several holes skirt cliff edges, testing nerves and club selection with forced carries and swirling winds. Fast, undulating greens require precise approach shots and confident putting to avoid three-putts or worse.
The Good
Golfers rave about the sweeping mountain and lake vistas from nearly every hole, as well as the club’s impeccable service and seclusion. The Tom Fazio design takes full advantage of the region’s natural features, creating a round filled with memorable shots, strategic variety, and breathtaking scenery that’s difficult to find anywhere else.
The Not So Good
Members sometimes note that the remote location makes access difficult for guests, and the exclusivity limits broader golfing experiences. Occasional fluctuating weather conditions can affect early or late season turf quality. While conditioning is generally superb, faster play can be hampered by the challenging terrain and elevation changes.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th hole is a par 4 that finishes alongside the cliffs of Mica Bay, offering breathtaking elevated views of Lake Coeur d’Alene. Its dramatic approach rewards accuracy and provides a memorable finale with panoramic scenery, as the green nestles above the water and clubhouse, creating a stunning closing challenge for any round.
Clubhouse
Gozzer Ranch’s clubhouse features a spa, dining overlooking the course and Mica Bay, locker rooms, and full-service pro shop. Social gathering spaces and top-tier service round out the experience, with amenities for members and guests to relax before or after play in luxurious Northwest style.
Practice Facilities
The club provides a comprehensive driving range with target greens, a short-game area with bunkers and chipping greens, and a large putting green. Players can expect ample space to warm up and refine their game before a round or receive lessons from PGA-certified instructors.
