Course Report

Carlton Woods features both a Tom Fazio and a Jack Nicklaus Signature Course, giving its members access to designs from two of golf's most celebrated architects within one private community.

About

The Club at Carlton Woods (Fazio Course) is a private 18-hole parkland layout crafted by Tom Fazio. Opened in 2005 within the prestigious Carlton Woods community, the course offers rolling terrain, water hazards, and pristine Bermuda fairways. Renowned for its challenging play and first-class conditions, it is considered one of Texas’ premier private golf experiences, recognized for exclusivity and excellence.

Caddie Tip

Water hazards and subtle elevation changes make club selection essential throughout the round, especially on approach shots. The greens are known for speed and contour, so focus on staying below the hole. The closing stretch can be demanding—play conservatively to protect your score as water and sand penalize aggressive lines on multiple holes.

The Main Challenge

The Fazio Course challenges players with strategically placed water hazards, deep bunkering, and swift, undulating greens. Routed through dense Texas woodlands, many holes require precise driving and thoughtful shot placement. The closing three finishing holes in particular often determine the round due to risk-reward decisions and demanding approaches.

The Good

Golfers consistently praise the immaculate course conditioning, attentive service, and challenging but fair layout. The Fazio design ensures every hole feels secluded, embraced by wooded corridors and natural water features that enhance both the visual character and strategic options. Members value the course’s playability, scenery, and overall quality of experience.

The Not So Good

Being a private, elite venue, complaints are relatively minor, but some members voice concerns about tee time availability during peak periods and would like expanded access for guests. Occasional weather-related drainage issues can affect parts of the fairways after prolonged heavy rains, common given the local climate.
