Course Report

Dancing Rabbit’s Azaleas Course is often called the "Augusta of the South" for its lush landscaping and spectacular blooms each spring.

About

The Azaleas Course at Dancing Rabbit Golf Club in Choctaw, Mississippi, was designed by Tom Fazio and Jerry Pate and opened in 1997. Set among rolling hills, towering pines, and spring-fed streams, this par-72 layout features Mississippi Choice Bermuda tees, Tifway II Bermuda fairways, and TifEagle greens, offering a blend of Southern charm, challenge, and beauty for all skill levels.

Caddie Tip

Play conservatively off the tee to avoid the many spring-fed streams that cross the fairways. Position is more important than distance, especially on approach shots to the undulating greens, which tend to run quick and smooth. Consider the subtle breaks influenced by the surrounding hills and always factor in the wind among the pines.

The Main Challenge

The constant presence of spring-fed streams, tight tree-lined fairways, and fast TifEagle greens consistently challenge golfers. Many holes require carefully placed tee shots and well-judged approaches to avoid hazards and negotiate subtle, sloping putting surfaces. Accuracy and patience are essential to scoring well.

The Good

Golfers rave about the natural setting, with fairways winding through dense pines and hardwoods and a layout that feels secluded and peaceful. The course's excellent maintenance and lush spring azalea blooms offer a visually stunning and highly enjoyable round for players seeking a top Southern resort experience.

The Not So Good

Players sometimes mention inconsistent bunker conditions after rain and difficulty with wet areas near streams in the spring. Pace of play can be affected during peak resort season, and some golfers would prefer more signage and better mapping for first-time visitors to aid navigation between holes.
