Course Report

Often called the 'Cypress Point of the East,' Fishers Island Club gives nearly every hole a water view and is considered one of the purest Raynor courses in the country.

About

Fishers Island Club, designed by Seth Raynor and finished by Charles Banks, is renowned for its world-class 18-hole links-style course on Long Island Sound. Regularly ranked among America’s top golf courses, it features classic strategic architecture, breathtaking ocean views from nearly every hole, and a tradition of exclusivity. The course challenges players with undulating greens and penal bunkering.

Caddie Tip

Place a premium on accuracy off the tee, as penal bunkering and thick native rough await on many holes. Club selection on approach shots is vital because the greens often feature bold contouring and false fronts. Wind from the surrounding sound can be a major factor year-round. Always double-check your lines on Raynor’s template greens.

The Main Challenge

The course’s toughest element is the ever-present coastal wind, which can dramatically alter club selection and shot shape. The penal Raynor bunkering, demanding tee shots, and undulating, elevated greens test approach accuracy and short game nerve. Strategic, creative play is required to score well.

The Good

Golfers rave about the course’s spectacular ocean views, classic architecture, and the subtle, strategic challenges that reward thoughtful play over brute strength. The routing offers new perspectives and vistas on every hole, making every round memorable and testing a player’s full skill set.

The Not So Good

Access is extremely limited due to the club’s private nature and remote location, so even golf purists rarely get to play it. Some guests wish for more modern or varied practice facilities, and tough rough can frustrate higher handicappers.

Signature Hole:

#

5

No items found.

The iconic par 3 5th hole, known as 'Biarritz,' demands a precise long iron to a unique green with a deep valley separating two plateaus. Facing Long Island Sound, a miss short leaves a challenging recovery while anything long risks a tricky downhill chip. Its setting and design epitomize Raynor’s architectural genius.

Clubhouse

No items found.

A stately clubhouse provides two elegant dining rooms, locker rooms, pro shop, and lounges with panoramic water views, plus private member services. Tennis courts and a private beach club are also featured, reinforcing the sense of exclusivity and tradition.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Fishers Island Club offers a modest driving range, short game area, and a large putting green. While practice facilities are well maintained and suited to skilled golfers, they do not feature extensive technology or advanced training aids.
