Course Report

The course underwent a major renovation in 2018, resurfacing greens and tees, and rebuilding bunkers to further enhance the acclaimed Tom Fazio layout.

About

Stock Farm Club is a private mountain golf retreat in Hamilton, Montana, featuring an 18-hole championship course masterfully designed by Tom Fazio. Opened in 1999, the course meanders through the Sapphire Mountains’ foothills, offering spectacular scenery, privacy, and a challenging yet accessible layout. Excellent course conditions and top-tier practice facilities ensure a high-quality experience for members.

Caddie Tip

Strategically play for position off the tee, as elevation changes and slick mountain greens can make club selection tricky and putting especially challenging. Pay attention to pin locations and avoid short siding yourself on approach shots—recovery from bunkers and rough can be demanding.

The Main Challenge

The course’s biggest test comes from its blend of length, elevation changes, and undulating Fazio greens. Several approach shots require precise club selection—off-target shots can leave tricky uphill or sidehill lies, making recovery and scoring difficult. Strategic bunkering and slick putting surfaces consistently challenge even seasoned players.

The Good

Members and guests rave about the spectacular mountain views, tranquility, and privacy on every hole. The Fazio routing is celebrated for its creativity—each hole feels unique, with elevation changes and scenery that make the round immersive and memorable.

The Not So Good

Some players feel the exclusivity of membership can make it challenging for prospective members or guests to access; others mention the course’s remote location makes travel a consideration. Increased tournament activity or guest event opportunities could enhance member experience.
