Course Report

Congaree operates with a unique philanthropic model, using the club as a hub to support youth educational and golf programs around the world, and is one of the few modern clubs to host a PGA Tour event with such a mission.

About

Congaree Golf Club is an exclusive, world-class private club in the South Carolina Lowcountry, designed by Tom Fazio and opened in 2017. The course blends links-like features with sandy waste areas and firm playing conditions, set on a historic 18th-century estate and dedicated to a philanthropic mission for youth and golf.

Caddie Tip

Due to the firm, sandy terrain and links-like routing, use the ground game and consider running shots onto the greens rather than always attacking through the air. Club selection off the tee is critical—avoid the cavernous bunkers and respect the wind, which often changes direction.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge at Congaree is the relentless demand for strategic thinking on every shot—sandy waste areas, fast and undulating greens, and firm conditions magnify mistakes. Players must adapt to wind changes, control their spin, and plot their way carefully from tee to green on every hole.

The Good

Golfers rave about the firm, fast playing surfaces and the thoughtful Fazio design, which uses natural contours and sandy areas to demand creativity, shot-making, and sound strategies. The peaceful Lowcountry setting, top-tier hospitality, and quality of course conditions complete a memorable elite-club experience.

The Not So Good

Access is extremely limited due to its private and invitation-only model. Some players seek more variety in visual framing and argue that certain holes can feel repetitive in style. During summer, playability can be limited due to heat and course maintenance.

Signature Hole:

#

15

No items found.

The 15th hole at Congaree Golf Club is a challenging par 4 that features a wide but intimidating sandy waste area to the right and a heavily contoured green. Strategic placement off the tee is crucial to avoiding trouble, and precision is vital for approach shots to hold the fast, firm putting surface.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The historic clubhouse provides luxury locker rooms, fine dining, lounges, and guest accommodations with attentive service. There are no large crowds, making for a serene atmosphere, and the club focuses on understated luxury rather than ostentation.

Practice Facilities
