Course Report

The course hosted the 2017 KitchenAid Senior PGA Championship, the first major golf event in the Washington D.C. metro area in nearly a decade.

About

Trump National Golf Club Washington, D.C. (Championship Course) is a private, Tom Fazio-designed layout built for world-class tournament golf. Opened in 2016, this par-72 course extends along the Potomac River with nearly 7,700 yards of dramatic and open terrain, offering pristine conditions, exceptional amenities, and some of the best river views in the Mid-Atlantic region.

Caddie Tip

Conservative strategies off the tee are rewarded here, as Fazio’s design often punishes big misses. Pay special attention to swirling winds near the Potomac, which can shift unexpectedly, especially on exposed holes. On 18, favor the left side to open up an optimal angle to the green and avoid the creek short right.

The Main Challenge

The toughest aspect is the combination of length, exposed wind, and water on a number of dramatic finishing holes. Long par 4s and risk-reward par 5s with tight approaches test every club in the bag. Greens can run exceptionally fast, punishing misjudged pace or spin, especially when windy.

The Good

Golfers especially love the championship-level challenge, panoramic riverside setting, and the immaculate course conditions. The stretch of holes along the Potomac provides stunning scenery rarely found in the D.C. region, and the world-class clubhouse amenities complete a memorable, five-star experience.

The Not So Good

Membership feedback sometimes notes the pace of play can slow on busy weekends and access is extremely limited for non-members or guests. Some wish for more frequent tee availability and minor complaints concern green speeds being occasionally too fast for average golfers.

Signature Hole:

#

18

The par-4 18th hole is widely regarded as the signature challenge, finishing with a dramatic amphitheater setting and a massive waterfall behind the green. With the Potomac as a backdrop and a creek in play, the approach demands precise shot-making and careful club selection for a memorable finish.

Clubhouse

The 50,000-square-foot clubhouse features luxurious locker rooms, fine and casual dining, event spaces, a pro shop, fitness facilities, an indoor tennis center, and outdoor pool. Valet, spa, and concierge services offer a top-tier club experience for members and their guests.

Practice Facilities

Extensive practice amenities include a full driving range with river views, several short game areas, large putting greens, and practice bunkers. The facilities are kept in tournament-ready condition and are available to members and guests throughout the season.
