Course Report

Harbour Town Golf Links is home to the RBC Heritage, South Carolina’s only annual PGA TOUR event since 1969, and is especially famous for its iconic red-and-white lighthouse behind the 18th green.

About

Harbour Town Golf Links, crafted by Pete Dye with Jack Nicklaus as consultant, is a celebrated resort course hosting the PGA TOUR’s RBC Heritage. Opened in 1969, it emphasizes precision over power, offering challenging par threes and famous closing holes along Calibogue Sound in the scenic South Carolina Lowcountry.

Caddie Tip

Accuracy is everything at Harbour Town. Tree-lined fairways force precise tee shots and approaches—favor position over distance, especially on tighter doglegs. On the par 3s, mind the swirling wind, and on 18, a conservative line right of the lighthouse can save a valuable shot.

The Main Challenge

Harbour Town’s greatest test comes from its narrow, tree-lined fairways and small, fiercely protected greens. Players must shape shots both ways and think strategically on every hole, especially when the coastal wind picks up. The finish along the water, particularly 17 and 18, provides a dramatic and demanding conclusion.

The Good

Golfers love the combination of strategic design, ever-changing coastal winds, and immaculate conditioning. The closing stretch along Calibogue Sound, capped by the instantly recognizable 18th with its lighthouse backdrop, is regularly cited as one of the most memorable and photogenic finishes in American golf.

The Not So Good

Some golfers note the cost of green fees is among the highest in the region, and slow play is possible during peak resort times due to heavy demand and the course’s challenge. Limited driving range access (located at the adjacent Plantation Club) is also a common complaint for serious practicers.

Signature Hole:

#

18

No items found.

The par-4 18th hole plays along Calibogue Sound, framed by the iconic Harbour Town lighthouse and water to the left. Wind is often a major factor, making accuracy off the tee and on approach crucial. One of the most recognized and daunting finishing holes in professional golf.

Clubhouse

No items found.

The Harbour Town Clubhouse offers elevated course views, a large locker room, excellent restaurant, premium pro shop, and the Pete Dye Room museum. Full bar, private event spaces, and attentive service are standard, enhancing the premier golf experience.

Practice Facilities

No items found.

Practice is available via a driving range at Plantation Golf Club, putting and chipping greens, short game area, and top-tier instruction. Facilities are modern but the range is not directly adjacent to the 1st tee, occasionally causing minor inconvenience.
