Course Report

Iron Horse is the only private golf club and residential community in the Flathead Valley and sits minutes from Glacier National Park and Whitefish Mountain Resort.

About

Iron Horse Golf Club is a Tom Fazio-designed private 18-hole course in Whitefish, Montana. Set amid 800 acres of mountain terrain with views of the Rockies and Whitefish Lake, the course features bluegrass fairways, smooth bentgrass greens, and five tee boxes per hole. Full practice facilities and resort-style amenities enhance the golf and club experience.

Caddie Tip

Play smart and conservatively off the tee due to frequent elevation changes and tree-lined fairways. Favor accuracy over distance, as Fazio’s strategic bunkering and approach-shot demands reward placement for scoring chances. Read greens carefully—subtle breaks are the norm on the bentgrass surfaces.

The Main Challenge

Approach shots require precision due to elevated greens and strategic bunkering, especially on holes playing across natural ravines or tight tree corridors. The Fazio design puts a premium on both distance control and smart shot selection, with the wind and mountain terrain adding a layer of subtle difficulty throughout the round.

The Good

Members love the tranquil mountain setting, with panoramic views of Whitefish Lake and the surrounding Rockies on nearly every hole. The Tom Fazio design delivers a fun, playable layout for all skill levels, and the exclusive, low-volume club atmosphere ensures both relaxation and pace-of-play consistency.

The Not So Good

Guest access is limited, making it difficult for non-members or visitors to play. Some members wish for more tee-time flexibility during peak summer months, and a few feel there could be even more member or family events to increase club social offerings.
