Course Report

The course occupies part of the historic Snake River Ranch and is set amid conservation land—guests enjoy unobstructed mountain views with negligible housing intrusion along the holes.

About

Shooting Star Golf Club is a private, Tom Fazio-designed 18-hole course in Teton Village, Wyoming. Opened in 2009 and ranked #1 in Wyoming by Golf Digest, the club is known for its dramatic mountain scenery, water features, and impeccable conditioning. Membership grants access to lavish amenities at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort.

Caddie Tip

Approach shots often play longer due to subtle elevation changes and the tendency for swirling mountain winds in the afternoon. On water-lined holes, bail-out areas are well placed but cost optimum angles to the pin. Keep your tee shots on the fairway—rough can be both lush and punitive. Putts generally break more than they first appear.

The Main Challenge

The greatest challenge at Shooting Star comes from its combination of well-placed water hazards and bunkers, with many approach shots playing to raised greens. Stiff afternoon winds and sweeping mountain views add a layer of complexity for even experienced players. Accuracy off the tee is critical to keep the ball in play on the strategic, hazard-laden holes.

The Good

Golfers are wowed by the course’s setting at the foot of the Tetons, with streams weaving through the layout and dramatic elevation changes. The design blends seamlessly into the landscape and every hole feels like part of the local wilderness, making each round a memorable experience for both visuals and playability.

The Not So Good

Members sometimes cite the club’s extreme exclusivity, limited guest access, and the waitlist for new memberships as drawbacks. Some wish for greater tee time flexibility, especially during peak summer months. Wet spring conditions can occasionally delay pristine fairways early in the season.
