Course Report

Turnberry’s iconic lighthouse, featured prominently on the course, sits atop the ruins of Robert the Bruce’s birthplace and now houses the most luxurious halfway house in golf.

About

Trump Turnberry Golf Course, originally designed by Willie Fernie and redesigned by Mackenzie Ross and Martin Ebert, is a legendary links layout on Scotland’s rugged west coast. Boasting panoramic sea views and an iconic lighthouse, the Ailsa course has hosted four Open Championships and is regularly ranked among the world’s top golf destinations.

Caddie Tip

On windy days, club selection is especially crucial—don’t hesitate to take extra club on exposed sea-facing holes, and use the slopes to feed shots towards tricky greens. Keeping the ball low will help you manage the elements and avoid deep pot bunkers.

The Main Challenge

The course’s fierce coastal winds and brutally penal pot bunkers challenge every golfer, especially through the exposed stretch from holes 8–11. The demanding routing means a poor tee shot can lead to double bogeys, and the lightning-fast greens require precision approaches and putting.

The Good

Golfers rave about the breathtaking coastal vistas, historic atmosphere, and the drama of playing beside the iconic lighthouse. The championship pedigree and world-class layout combine to deliver a memorable round for players of all skill levels, with challenging holes and spectacular scenery defining each round.

The Not So Good

Players occasionally note the brisk winds and unpredictable weather can make rounds tough, and some feel facilities could be more player-focused at peak times. Additionally, premium green fee rates can be a barrier to more frequent play, and modest improvements to locker room space are sometimes requested.
