Course Report
Pinnacle Course is frequently ranked as one of the Top 100 public courses in the U.S. and showcases original rock outcroppings unique to the region.
About
Troon North's Pinnacle Course is a Tom Weiskopf design winding through the striking Sonoran Desert landscape beneath Pinnacle Peak, featuring giant granite boulders, saguaro cacti, and dramatic elevation changes. The course is renowned for its challenging layout, scenic beauty, and exceptional maintenance, consistently ranking among Arizona's best and delivering an iconic desert golf experience.
Caddie Tip
Play conservatively off the tee—many holes demand accuracy over length due to strategic bunkering and desert washes. Misses tend to ricochet into unforgiving desert, so prioritize center-green approaches, especially on par 3s and finishing holes. Trust the yardages and pay attention to wind direction, as gusts can shift around the mountain slopes.
The Main Challenge
The course is famed for its demanding approach shots and persistent risk-reward decisions over desert washes and boulders. Many holes require precision and nerve, especially on the back nine. The undulating greens and cleverly placed hazards test even experienced players—few rounds are free from at least one tough recovery from the desert.
The Good
Golfers rave about the stunning desert scenery and immaculate course conditioning. The Pinnacle Course offers memorable holes with dramatic elevation changes and breathtaking views of Pinnacle Peak. The variety of shotmaking required and the overall ambiance make it a bucket-list destination for anyone visiting Scottsdale.
The Not So Good
Players sometimes mention the premium pricing and the challenge of slow play during peak afternoons. Some find the desert carries intimidating, especially for higher handicaps, and would appreciate additional forward tees or more generous landing areas.
Signature Hole:
#
18
The 18th hole on the Pinnacle Course is a dramatic par 4 that heads back towards the clubhouse. It features a sweeping fairway framed by the Sonoran Desert, granite boulders, and a challenging approach to a well-guarded green. Strategic sand and desert carry make it a memorable finishing hole that rewards accuracy off the tee and on the approach.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse includes a pro shop, high-end locker rooms, acclaimed dining options, and scenic patio seating. Guests enjoy attentive service, equipment rentals, and a variety of food and beverage offerings. Events, tournaments, and group golf outings are well-supported.
Practice Facilities
Troon North features a full driving range, short game area, and putting greens with high-quality turf conditions.
