About
Caves Valley Golf Club, designed by Tom Fazio in 1991, is renowned for its rolling terrain, strategic bunkering, and immaculate bentgrass conditions. Set in the hills of Baltimore County, the layout harmonizes with its natural surroundings, providing a memorable challenge for all skill levels. The club is private and known for hosting several top-tier championships.
Caddie Tip
Stay below the hole on approach shots; the fast bentgrass greens are heavily contoured and can be unforgiving from above. Use conservative club choices off the tee to find fairways, and beware of changing elevation and swirling winds throughout the round.
The Main Challenge
The biggest challenge is navigating the quick and sloping bentgrass greens, which demand precise approaches and deft putting. The course’s rolling topography and deep bunkering place a premium on strategy, especially on the closing stretch where nerves are often tested.
The Good
Golfers rave about the pristine playing surfaces and strong course architecture that rewards thoughtful strategy. The rolling Maryland landscape and Fazio’s routing offer a constant variety of holes, with outstanding par 4s and challenging approaches making for an enjoyable and memorable round.
The Not So Good
Access is very limited due to exclusive membership policies, and some visitors note the course can be demanding for higher handicaps, especially due to length, forced carries, and the challenging green complexes.

The 18th hole, a par 4, is a demanding finisher framed by natural hills and mature trees. Players face a tee shot to a narrowing fairway, followed by a precise approach over water to a protected green. The hole has decided national tournaments, blending risk and reward for a dramatic conclusion.

The clubhouse features fine dining, multiple lounges, locker rooms, luxury guest rooms, and event spaces. Onsite amenities include a fitness center, tennis courts, and a swimming pool, along with attentive staff and premium service.
Practice Facilities
Caves Valley offers an extensive practice area with a full driving range, short game area, putting green, and multiple target greens. PGA professionals are on staff to provide instruction and clinics for members.
